Swedish Halloween

Halloween has a long tradition in the U.S., but started to attract followers in Sweden a few decades ago. There, there have always been rituals in connection with the harvest (by pumpkins) and the Christian holiday All Saint's Day (1 November), a traditional day to remember the dead. In Sweden, the gothic aspects of Halloween are most appealing; as a result people tend to dress in scary costumes - vampires, witches, zombies. Children may attend Halloween parties, but there is no organized 'trick or treating'. It's simply a great occasion to get together, make believe, and party!
