It's the end of July and what Swedes call Högsommar (High-Summer). Surviving all those long, dark, cold winter is finally rewarded and we can enjoy the light and the warmth of summer. But warmth is not only the only reward; in the forests berries are ripening and mushrooms emerging. Wild strawberries are by far the popular favorite (remember Ingmar Bergman's film Wild Strawberries?), but there are also yellow and red raspberries, blueberries, as well as red and black currents free for the picking!
The Swedish traditional law called Right of Public Access gives everyone the right to freely roam the forests and pick berries and mushrooms.
