Skyltsöndag - 'Display window Sunday'

Today is 'display window Sunday' in Sweden. Traditionally, shops cover their display windows with sheets in the days before the first of Advent (4 weeks before Christmas), building anticipation of what will soon be unveiled. On First of Advent Sunday (dating from a time when there was no shopping on the Christian 'day of rest'), everyone comes out to see what magical and tantalizing displays the shopkeepers have unveiled. It's a purely a social event - at least until Monday when shops open again for business!
